Established in 1989 the Mearns Dojo initially taught only traditional Shotokan Karate. Iwama style Aikido was introduced later in 1996. The Aboyne Dojo opened in 1996, with the Marykirk Dojo following in 1999.

Our group can now provide instruction to a high level in both Shotokan Karate and Iwama-ryu Aikido, this includes tuition in the use of the Bokken, (wooden sword) & the Jo (wooden staff) we are at present the only group in the North East of Scotland to do so. We teach each one of the arts independently, and give equal emphasis to both. We hold local and national courses. Regular examinations, plus regular visits from senior Karate and Aikido Instructors. We have a large childrens classes where junior students can receive instruction in either one of the arts. The dojo has two senior instructors who between them have well over 40 years martial arts experience to call upon. All instructors and students are fully insured and are licensed members of recognised governing bodies.
